FAQs

  • Parents often worry about crossing the line between support and over-editing. College essay coaching is designed to guide—not replace—the student’s work. Students develop their own ideas, write their own drafts, and make final revision decisions. Coaching focuses on helping students think critically, organize their thoughts, and communicate clearly, while ensuring the final essay is authentic and fully theirs.

  • Ideally, students begin brainstorming in the spring or summer before senior year, when there is less academic pressure. That said, many students successfully write strong essays later with the right structure and timeline. The most important factor is not when they start, but whether they have clear guidance, accountability, and realistic deadlines.

  • Admissions officers are not expecting perfect writing or extraordinary life stories. They are looking for authenticity, self-awareness, and insight into who the student is beyond grades and test scores. Strong essays clearly answer the prompt, reflect personal growth or values, and help the reader understand how the student thinks, learns, and engages with the world.

  • Many parents are understandably concerned about AI use and academic integrity in the college admissions process. Advantage U. emphasizes original thinking, authentic storytelling, and student-written drafts. AI tools are not used to write essays for students, and students are guided to develop ideas, language, and reflections that are uniquely their own.

All feedback focuses on structure, clarity, and strategy—not generating content. This approach ensures essays remain original, ethically developed, and fully compliant with college application standards, while helping students build skills they will need in college-level writing.

  • “The process of finding the right college, best financial packages and fit for your child is hard enough. If you can imagine having to do it for 2 children, with totally different wants and needs and running for Brooklyn Borough President, is nearly impossible. I am grateful that I had Advantage U. with guiding my son and daughter through the college process. Raquel took all of the anxiety off my shoulders and allowed me to concentrate on my campaign. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

  • "As a parent, this program was an essential way to keep my son on track through the college process on deliverables. Additionally, since I am Canadian and new to this process, it reduced my anxiety about what needed to be done, and it also reduced the negative interactions between myself and my son because the program, and especially, Raquel, held my son accountable for his deliverables. Advanatge U. was an exceptional partner and counselor in the process for both of us."

  • "I appreciate the support I was given, especially at the beginning. I worked closely with my coach on my essays over the summer which made senior year much easier as I was done with all of my supplements by the end of September."
